Definitely not hacked
It turns out the problems with the scoreboard and page access in Dolphin Olympics were/are due to issues with my hosting provider. I hope to have them resolved soon.

How come I can’t go above the moon anymore. I can get to the moon, and then my dolphin goes off the page into the white part of the rest of the page… I miss getting to Mars!!!

Thanks for letting me know about that Sarah, it should be fixed now.

One notice - the more powerfull machine you have, the more score you can achieve. The playing time is the same on all machines (2 minutes), but the dolphin “speed” is different (dolphin’s speed is CPU power dependant). I can barely hit 8mil score at my work where i have AMD 1.4GHz, whereas i have no problem to make 15mil score at home on AMD 2.5GHz.

@alan - i would like to ask you if you can make one modification. If you do a lot of trick then you can’t see your dolphin because he is obscured by the label displaying the “tricks” you made (it’s harder to make the final Tail Slide if you don’t see your dolphin). So I think that it will be better to use “Tripple Hello to Mary!” instead of “Hello to Mary! + Hello to Mary! + Hello to Mary!” (for all “tricks” which is not reported this way). Thanks very much for considering this.

My Records… Go away…. :S:S:S
September 14th, 2006 at 7:14 am
@alan - thx very much for implementing the suggestion. I can see the dolphin all the time now, so i hope i’ll make it to the top scores.
September 14th, 2006 at 9:29 am
@mjike - No problem, it wasn’t tough to do. I’m also looking at finding a way to make the game play at the same speed for everyone (ie. slow the timer down when the game slows down on slower machines).
@srx - Do you mean your ‘my records’ vanished? That used to be a problem for me but it hasn’t happened in a long time. Are you playing the game on rawkins.com? There are some other sites out there that are hosting older versions of the game that don’t have the more recent bug-fixes in them.
September 14th, 2006 at 11:45 am
hey alan for some reason the video doesnt work for me and i dont know why! any suggestions why this is happening or can you give me some info on the video? thanks
September 14th, 2006 at 11:49 am
Hey Steve, not sure exactly. The video is hosted on YouTube and was not created by me so I can’t say specifically why you’d have troubles viewing it. I just tried it and it is loading ok for me. You could try checking out the YouTube help pages at http://www.youtube.com/t/help_center.

Alan,
“My scores” is disappearing for me too. Keeps it during gameplay, but when I leave and come back they’re gone. My records are there though (highest, longest etc). Just the scores are gone.
Note: Installed latest MS patches yesterday. Coinkydink?

MrChips, thanks for letting me know. It\’s tempting to blame it on the MS patch, but I\’m guessing it has something to do with the maximum amount of data Flash can store locally. Or some bad coding on my part. I\’ll take a closer look at it tonight.
September 14th, 2006 at 12:08 pm
thanks alan i will try that
September 14th, 2006 at 12:16 pm
oh and another question, ive reached up to the stars before but i cant seem to do it anymore! oh and the whole sea gull thing is kinda funny
September 14th, 2006 at 1:06 pm
Bad coding on your part?! I find that hard to believe!!!
Such a precise, prefectly executed game… it’s like two minutes of foreplay and then… if you can hit that last tailslide… ahhhh!
September 14th, 2006 at 5:34 pm
hey umm i was wondering if the whole cork screwing thing all the way up to space is the 11 million points thing becuase ive done it and im wondering if that is what the movie pretty much is please reply
September 14th, 2006 at 5:36 pm
:(
September 14th, 2006 at 8:51 pm
The videos show one large combo where the jumps are chained together. If you are already going into space past mars you are probably doing something similar already.
September 14th, 2006 at 8:52 pm
ps
@MrChips, thanks for the kind words
September 15th, 2006 at 9:52 am
Hey @alan - Just wondering, are you as addicted to this game as I am (very) ? What’s your high score?
September 15th, 2006 at 9:59 am
Hey Bean, when I first started making it I played it a lot, and I used to be quite addicted to it. But after working on it for so long I’ve slowed down quite a bit. Most of my playtime now revolves around testing and making sure things are working properly. My high score (~2,700,000 I think) is quite low compared to what people are getting these days.
September 15th, 2006 at 10:27 am
Alan! Thanks for implementing the fantastic suggestion to show stats at the end of each game… whoever came up with that idea is brilliant, that’s for sure!
Really adds an element to the gameplay!
One note: the stats probably look great with the night scene, but during the day the stats show white on white… can’t read them (unless you highlight them)
Cheers!
September 15th, 2006 at 10:33 am
MrChips, I am glad you are enjoying the records. Indeed it was a good suggestion. I see what you mean about the white on white. That’s what happens when I start coding features late at night.
September 15th, 2006 at 1:11 pm
ok thanks alan and well im not getting past mars but i am getting past the moon
September 15th, 2006 at 4:57 pm
is anyone out there?
September 15th, 2006 at 10:08 pm
yeah, my highscores keep on dissapearing… I thought it was just my computer though….
Love the game. Can’t se why one person is complaining about getting only 1 mil. I can barely get to 200k.
September 15th, 2006 at 10:09 pm
I can get past Mars. is there anything past mars? just wanna check…
btw, is Shoot the Moon a trick? it should be -_^
September 15th, 2006 at 10:33 pm
@Steve - heya, I’m here. I don’t check the blog as much during the evenings, so I don’t get to responding as quickly.
@Dolfi - Yep there is some stuff past Mars. Still looking into the high scores…
September 15th, 2006 at 10:39 pm
yes!!! my highscores are staying in place!!! 25 mil, here i come(mhm, sure)
September 16th, 2006 at 12:58 am
Second the thanks for the post-run summary. It’s nice to see how you did.
My personal high scores are also not saving.
September 17th, 2006 at 6:07 pm
I finally made it to the top scores, I’m so happy!
Alan, I have to say that your game is fantastic and proves that even “simple” game can bring a lot of joy and competition for so many people. Thank you very much.
mike
September 18th, 2006 at 9:33 pm
im not on the high scores!!! must…continue….to….play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(i think that proves the competitive thing)
actually, i seem to be very competitive with this game. me and my dad compete with eachother to see whos better(i would like to say that currently, I AM!!!), and once i hung up on one of my friends to play this!!!
September 20th, 2006 at 8:02 pm
very good game, my high is 21 mil, how do you get 29 ?!? WTF??!!?
September 20th, 2006 at 11:36 pm
@mike - congrats, I see you haven’t been dethroned yet.
@Dolfi, I’m glad you like the game. I hope your friend forgave you.
@Kaanzor - To be honest I’m not even sure. I’ve never managed to get anywhere close to that many points. If you can manage 21 though I expect you are on the right track.
September 21st, 2006 at 5:25 pm
I’d love to see a >20 million video.
i once managed 13 million and that was so hard…
September 22nd, 2006 at 9:32 am
@idnA - 25 million
September 26th, 2006 at 1:52 pm
alan,
thanks for creating such a wonderfully addictive game… i had the best score ever with my 31.9 mil run but i believe your scoreboard has been hacked again. unless i really happened to get beat by exactly 1 point - highly unlikely as i also notice all the other records were just stolen by the same person.
wish i had a video of my 31 mil run for everyone (it was quite thrilling)
September 26th, 2006 at 1:57 pm
Thanks Gary, you are correct, those scores were not legitimate. Congrats on the awesome run!
