Artcade

Monday, October 20th, 2008

If you live in or around the Toronto area, you may be interested in checking out Artcade, “where you can play over a dozen Toronto indie videogames on our totally awesome & totally fake arcade cabinets”, including my entry to the Toronto game Jam Happy Goat Lucky. Artcade is part of Canzine, “Canada’s Largest Zine Fair and Festival of Alternative Culture”. My apologies for the excessive use of double quotes.

The festival is on Sunday October 26, at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto. Check out the website for full details and a schedule.

If you are a DO addict you owe it to yourself to check out this video. A warning though: it’s a real tear jerker.

38 million point video

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Update: The video is now also viewable in-game, under ‘How to Play’, on the 4th page.

I’ve recorded and posted 38 million point run in Dolphin Olympics 2. This is the first time I’ve done a video on youtube so the quality is a little low, but hopefully the maneuvers are clear enough. I was lucky on this run in that I started right on an extension, but I don’t think that had a massive impact on the final score. You can see the big boost to the points comes from getting to the really high planets, and mixing up a lot of tricks to get your multiplier as high as possible.

This wasn’t a perfect run either, so there’s lots of room for improvement (which is reflected on the high score chart; I didn’t come close to placing top 10). There’s more stuff to get to in space, and I didn’t finish with a big tailslide or starslide, which can help a lot.

Scoreboard reboot coming

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

There have been a lot of bug fixes in Dolphin Olympics 2 over the past few days, including some changes to how the game controls and how points are scored. To keep an even playing field, I’m going to reboot the scoreboard soon, probably later on today or tomorrow. Apologies to anyone who has worked hard to get onto the top ten, but I’m sure you can do it again, right?

Dolphin Olympics 2

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Dolphin Olympics 2 is ready for consumption. The game is still tentatively under development, and no doubt the high score chart will need to be rebooted before long, but otherwise it’s pretty much good to go.

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

Jayisgames.com have posted their top casual games of 2006, and nominated Dolphin Olympics in the action/arcade category! It’s a big honour to see it in there alongside those other games, all of them are extremely cool. A big congratulations to all of the winners.

New game - Wakerider

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

I’ve recently finished up working on an entry for the donationcoder.com Accessibility Game Coding Contest. It’s a switch game, which is a game that has only one input (in this case the left mouse button).

The game is called Wakerider. Steer a boat through a series of checkpoints before you run out of time while keeping your wakeboarder from wiping out.

Hope everyone out there has a good 2007! I’m back from holidays and have finished up a few big projects, so I’ll hopefully have more time to keep this site up-to-date.

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Update: As mentioned in the comments on this post, there is now an 11 million video available. I am constantly amazed at the skill of all of you Dolphin Olympics players. I can barely crack 2 million myself most of the time :)

rssurvivor has posted a video of a 3 million point run in Dolphin Olympics. If you’re curious about some of the techniques you can use to get a better score, check it out.
